EXPERIENCE

MakarttPro eCommerce Specialist & Nail Tech Connect Program Manager

December 2023 – Present

Where do I begin with my current role? Joining a startup straight out of internships wasn’t easy, but it quickly ignited my passion for business operations and scaling growth. I stepped into my Amazon role with zero prior experience — and suddenly found myself needing to understand everything from sales management, procurement, and advertising to social media, graphic design, and team leadership.

Product Development Project: Ultimate Acrylic Starter Kit

One of my favorite projects at MakarttPro was developing a professional starter kit for beginner nail techs. At the time, we were using U.S.-based labor to hand-pick and assemble these kits, which made the product expensive despite its potential to be a core offering. Our average order value on Amazon was also low, so we needed higher-priced products to meet sales goals. I took full ownership of the kit: communicating with our Chinese suppliers, negotiating costs, designing the packaging and user manuals, and launching it across Amazon, our Shopify site, and TikTok Shop. (You can find the pitch deck I used to secure budget for this project below.)

Testing Job Role Structures on Amazon

As our catalog grew, I realized that preparing for major events like Prime Day and Black Friday/Cyber Monday would require additional hands. I tested two team structures: one where workers owned a set of SKUs end-to-end, and another where workers specialized in functions (e.g., advertising, design, procurement). My experiment showed that SKU-based ownership delivered better results — it gave each contributor a more cohesive understanding of our catalog and business operations.

A/B Testing Campaign Organization to Increase ROAS

Advertising became one of the core parts of my role. I started with no PPC experience, but through hands-on testing and iteration, I learned how to build campaigns that perform. I experimented with keyword match types, campaign segmentation, and optimization schedules. One A/B test I ran compared different campaign structures to determine which setup delivered the highest Sponsored Product ROAS — the winning structure is now our internal standard.

Increasing Hero Unit Revenue Through Increasing Product Awareness

One of our hero products showed the potential for growth using google search index terms. There was a major gap in what we could be making versus what we were actually making. Also, a survey showed that customers who bought another hero product were not aware that we sold this product I decided to take action by relaunching the monomer with a full scaled upper funnel awareness plan by collaborating with social teams, influencer relations and sales teams to solidify our messaging and increase awareness on our sales channels, measured by customer surveys and search term queries.

Graphic Design Examples

Because we’re a small team, we often wear many hats — including photography and Photoshop. While I had some exposure to these skills during my internships, I hadn’t yet developed them at a professional level. Through persistence (and a lot of YouTube tutorials), I taught myself how to create high-quality visual assets. I now design graphics for our email and SMS campaigns, Amazon Brand Store, advertising creatives, and product listings.
Below is a gallery showcasing some of the Photoshop work I’ve done, along with layout designs from our Brand Store.

Knowledge Transfer to Chinese Team

What makes MakarttPro unique is that our customers are professionals. Their livelihoods depend on the consistency of our products. To improve communication and shorten our supply chain feedback loop, we relocated the Amazon team to China. After demonstrating success scaling our Amazon channel, I was entrusted with transitioning the team overseas — and with laying the groundwork for our new platform, Nail Tech Connect. I traveled to China to train our local team on branding, advertising, inventory forecasting, photography, and visual standards — ensuring they had the tools to continue our growth on Amazon and beyond.

Additionally, I realized that the language barrier was frustrating on both sides to navigate. To ensure continued success, I coordinated comprehensive advertising and Amazon operations training for our local team in China, working closely with both my U.S. and overseas teams. I translated all training materials into Cantonese and remained available across time zones—even after returning home—to support the team’s transition and long-term success.

Godefroy Beauty Marketing Intern

May 2023- December 2023

I was a Digital Marketing Intern for Innovative Beauty Products LLC under Godefroy Beauty. I enjoyed working for this company because it was family-owned and 100% cruelty-free. During my time there, I created content for all social media platforms, with a focus on Instagram and TikTok. For my content, I used Procreate, Canva, and Capcut.

Another part of my role was product photography. I used the company’s Canon camera along with lighting equipment and provided props. Check out my gallery below for the photos I shot with my team!

Every month of my internship, my team created a new product concept and pitched it to our bosses. I really enjoyed this because it allowed us to be creative while also thinking logically about the financials and logistics of a potential new product. I’ve attached our presentations to show what we came up with.

I had the opportunity to write multiple blogs for Godefroy’s website and guest write blogs for other websites. While I worked with influencers via Instagram and TikTok, we also focused on collaborating with bloggers and publications. I have a passion for writing, so it was fun to put those skills to use.

Marketing had shifted to a social media-based approach. Through all my experience, I came to understand the importance of algorithms, particularly SEO. To optimize our blog posts, I used Google Ads and Google Keywords to stay competitive within the algorithm.

(FYI: All posts on the company’s website were published under my boss’s name due to the software we used. Guest posts were paid collaborations and were published under the blogger’s name. All linked below were written by me.)

Student Engagement Media Team

May 2022 – December 2022

I worked alongside a team of content creators to manage a variety of social media pages. I learned so much during the summer and semester that I will carry with me throughout my career.

Our generation was, and continues to be, heavily impacted by social media. Developing a strategy, identifying the right audience, and regularly reviewing performance insights were key to building a successful brand.

During this internship, I worked with Instagram analytics, the Hey Orca social media calendar, Microsoft Teams, Lightroom, and Canva.
